Orthopedics
Our staff is specially trained in orthopedic physical therapy, the science of treating injuries and conditions that impact the musculoskeletal system as well as the nervous system. With the use of evidence-based therapy that combines hands-on treatment, modern modalities, and exercise, our goal is to get patients pain-free and back to their normal lifestyles as quickly as possible.

Manual Therapy
At Soul Physical Therapy we use hands-on techniques such as mobilization and manipulation to decrease pain and improve range-of-motion. We also utilize instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization as well cupping and dry needling techniques to help decrease pain and threat of movement.  These treatments are combined with exercise to allow patients to work towards reaching their goals.

Selective Functional Movement Assessment
The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is a standardized movement assessment used to assess movement patterns. From it, our physical therapists develop an individualized plan of care.  This plan of care typically consists of manual therapy and exercise.

The assessment involves a series of seven full-body movement tests. These cover essential patterns of moving, such as bending or squatting. It helps the therapist to assess many factors that could contribute to why an individual may be in pain.
The SFMA is an essential tool in our whole body approach to physical therapy and is the foundation of providing effective care.

Integrative Dry Needling
Dry Needling is a highly effective treatment for musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions.  Dry needling is NOT acupuncture.  It is based on neuro-anatomy not on meridians.  A very thin filament needle is inserted through the skin and into deeper tissues that are considered trigger points.

Dry needling works through local and systemic mechanisms.  Local effects are generated with the lesion created from introducing and removing the needle.  By creating the lesion, physiological mechanisms are set into play to remodel injured or inflamed tissue. The tissue remodeling process includes the reduction of tissue tension, normalization of inflammation and replacement of injured tissue with fresh tissue of the same type.  Dry Needling also produces systemic effects of restoring systemic homeostasis in multiple body systems.

Back and Neck Pain
Almost 90 percent of people experience back and neck pain in their lives. In some cases, it can be a temporary pain but in many cases, it becomes chronic. Living with pain and restricted movement seriously impacts quality of life and ability to pursue our interests fully.

Physical therapy is effective in the treatment back and neck pain, and in preventing its recurrence.
In many cases, pain that is addressed early can be eliminated and long-term problems and surgery can be avoided with treatment.

Pre and Post-Surgical Care
Physical therapy is effective both before and after surgery to reduce recovery time. Healing is assisted by being in the best possible shape in advance of surgery.  It is also helpful to decrease anxiety associated with surgery by understanding the process.  Post surgery, physical therapy reduces recovery time and restores functional ability.

Regardless of the type and location of surgery, physical therapy afterwards can also help you return to active living as quickly as possible. In cases such as total joint replacement, rotator cuff repair or knee surgery, PT helps build restore strength and mobility to aide in recovery of functional ability.

Sports Injuries
Physical therapy is effective in treating sprains, strains and fractures that occur during sporting activities. At Soul PT, we develop a customized program that helps you return to your sport as quickly and safely as possible.  We also have effective courses of treatment for sports specific injuries, such as golfer’s shoulder, tennis elbow, and runner’s knee.

Whether you are a peak condition athlete or just enjoy weekend sports, we will create a program that helps your recovery and prevent recurrence of the injury.

Chronic Pain
Nothing impacts quality of life more than persistent pain. We have effective physical therapy treatment for conditions like fibromyalgia and chronic headaches. We are also able to assist patients suffering with long-term pain from different forms of arthritis.

Upper and Lower Extremities
The functioning of upper and lower limbs is enhanced with custom physical therapy programs. Through a combination of corrective exercise, manual therapy and education, we will work with you to restore your mobility, build strength and restore your functional ability.

Whether you seek treatment for your shoulder, elbow or wrist and forearm we will determine the source of your pain and present treatments that will address the root of the problem. Together, through therapies and prescribed exercises, we will restore your functional ability.

We will work with your physician and insurance provider to assist in your recovery following motor vehicle accidents. Our goal is to assess your injuries and discuss with you a course of therapy designed to help you reach recovery as rapidly as possible.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is an effective treatment to reduce pain and tightness in the body. It provides depth and precision in reducing friction that extends past manual manipulation. IASTM works by triggering an inflammatory healing response while allowing for less painful healing for various problems, including adhesions and scars. It shortens healing time and frequently reduces the need to take anti-inflammatory medicine.

An additional benefit is that clients can continue with their everyday activity while undergoing this treatment. It is particularly effective in dealing with repetitive strain injuries and conditions of chronic pain.

Gait Analysis / Running Analysis
Gait analysis is a scientific study of how you walk and run. A physical therapist will breakdown your walking and / or running mechanics. It is a crucial part in the treatment plan for any patients who are having pain walking or running.

Running analysis may be also used is for to improve running performance.

At Soul PT we are trained in “System of a Run”.  We deliver evidence-informed treatment to get you back running as quickly and safely as possible.

We treat concussions and whiplash injuries from sports, head trauma, falls, and motor vehicle accidents based on the specific presentation and individual needs of each patient.  Our goal is to restore normal function of multiple systems:
Visual System: When the eyes are able to focus, shift, and stabilize our gaze, are responsive to light, school or computer work and busy environments become less stressful on our system
Vestibular System: When we restore normal equilibrium, we can easily resume normal activities of daily living that have balance and stability demands
Musculoskeletal System: The neck and upper back musculature can contribute to persistent headaches and discomfort following concussion and should be addressed with targeted manual therapy techniques and exercise

Aquatic PT is especially helpful for those with various forms of arthritis including osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, rheumatoid arthritis.  It is also patients with lupus, chronic pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia.  Post operative patients can weight bear or use their affected limb earlier on in the rehab process in water.

Motor Vehicle Accidents
We will work with your physician and insurance provide to assist in your recovery following motor vehicle accidents. Our goal is to assess your injuries and discuss with you a course of therapy designed to help you reach recovery as rapidly as possible.

Kinesiotaping
The body’s natural healing process is enhanced with the support and stability of kinesiotaping for muscles and joints.  Taping can help provide input to your system to reduce the threat of movement and encourage proper movement patterning.  It can be helpful in making the effects of manual therapy and corrective exercise last longer and become more ingrained.
The kinesiotaping process is latex free and can be worn for several days without harmful effects.
